I don't know about you, but I have had long stretches of time when I spend too much time thinking about what to paint that will sell. Sure.. I know, I know... we all want to sell our work (or at least most of us). But here is what I learned; my best work is made when I am just painting to paint. Getting in the flow, doing what comes from my heart, trying new things. It sounds cliché to say, "it is about the process", but that is true. It is about the process, because going thru the process, painting for the sake of painting, is what gets us to the good stuff. The stuff that speaks for US. Who we really are as an artist and as a person.
I feel like, for me, if I am always in the "Sell! Sell! Sell!" zone, I am never in the "What really feels good to me?" zone. And, let's face it, when you are feeling good about your work, and there is joy in your work... more will come and then you are "off to the races"
I have found lots of joy in my 2021 #the100dayproject on Instagram. My hashtag is #100whimsicalbeings and they make me smile. They are just me making art for the sake and getting to know the invisible people that live in my heart.
